Welcome to SIT
Hi everyone. Hope you’re doing okay in the New Year.
We wanted to let you know that our cafe will be opening very soon - maybe in the next few weeks. Or as Mary Oliver said - “Things take the time they take”
The cafe is called SIT. The name should be jarring and feel a little left of centre from what we’ve come to be known for. There’s no obvious ethnicity or authenticity that we are appealing to. Nostalgia is present but not as bait. As something new and warped and whacky. More on why we called it SIT can be seen on the website.
Our food will not be reliant as much on past narrative. Produce and seasonality will be front and centre as well as thoughtfulness, approachability and technicality. The kitchen is phenomenal and we are very proud of it.
The space does not look like South Western Sydney diasporic dwellings. This isn’t to say those touchpoints aren’t there. It’s who we are. We’d like to think the design, in both the physical and digital sense, represents a kind of imagining. An accelerated and slightly distorted vision of suburban aesthetics. Familiar but unsettled.
This has all come together with a handful of incredible artists and designers which will be revealed slowly and in due time. Collaboration yet again informing our practice. It’s the only way really.
SIT will perform as a social enterprise. We are committed to fulfilling these conditions and in so doing become a place of connection.
Cafe’s have always been a breeding ground for creativity, for community, for generative dissidence, for resistance, for coffee, for sustenance, for support. We are incredibly excited to connect to this history and to return aspects of this origin to the forefront.
We will leave you with a quick explanation of how our communication will be structured. Our website is the starting place. From there we will distribute regular newsletters and updates as well as food and drink photography and anything else exciting. SIT instagram page will function in interesting ways that we hope you engage with. For now, subscribe to our mailing list and we can’t wait to SIT with you all.
